FlashCanon Flash Platform stuff from Jason Fincanon

vizX has been updated

vizX LogoAs I mentioned in my previous post, I’m working on catching up with some Flash/Flex related things now that my life is back to some kind of normal pattern. One of the items on my list was to update vizX (my Adobe AIR Developer Derby entry back in September last year) and I can now scratch that off the list.

If you’re new to vizX, here’s my original description:
vizX is a visual XML editor which displays nodes in a tree structure on the left while details of the selected node are displayed on the right. The details include the name and text value of the node, its attributes and the ability to add child nodes and new attributes.

Thanks to everyone who has used (or plans on trying) vizX! After checking it out, I would love to hear your thoughts or any issues you ran into while using vizX.

And finally, here it is:

Whoa. You need to install Adobe Flash Player.

  1. The open file dialog response is very slow.
Why is the background half opaque? It just does not look good.
There is a black corner in the right bottom. For me it looks as if you
could resize the window by dragging this corner. No way.

All the text is not utf-8 encoded… german “umlaute” are not being recognized.
It would be more intuitive if you could edit the node names directly by clicking on
the name instead of showing a dialog next the xml structure.

My two cents for today :)

  2. Wow, has it really been over a year (June 20, 2008) since I posted this?

Thanks for your input Mark! I actually started rebuilding vizX from the ground up in Flex 4, but got side tracked by work and my book project. I was actually kicking around the idea of editing the node names directly and you’ve inspired me to do so. Hopefully I’ll be able to get back to it soon but I’m starting to think it may be a while due do my schedule over the next several months.

    Thanks again for your thoughts!
