Wow! Another chapter in the Design Center!

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

AdobeSo I was perusing the Adobe site last night and I suddenly found myself saying, “Hey, that’s a picture of me on adobe.com!” The very nice people running the Adobe Design Center have posted another chapter (chapter 10 - Preparing and building microsites) of my book so I just wanted to take a second (again) to publicly thank Jen, Sara and anyone else involved in making it happen.

Thanks everyone!

AdobeI’d like to take a minute give a BIG thanks to Jen deHaan and Sara DiGregorio at Adobe for taking time out of their recent days to talk with me and my publisher about including an excerpt from my book on adobe.com. I’m obviously very excited about this and I hope that the excerpt, which is chapter 4, will peak your interest enough to check out the rest of the book.

Thanks again Jen and Sara!

Presenting at DFWAUG tomorrow

Friday, September 14th, 2007

DFWAUGWith tomorrow’s DFWAUG meeting being the first since the release of my book, I’ll be presenting it to the group and we’ll be raffling off a copy as well. During the presentation I’ll be giving a general overview of the book, showing some of the work and code featured in the book and talking a bit about the actual experience of being published for the first time. Also presenting tomorrow will be fellow DFWAUG member and Manager of the local Dallas InDesign and Acrobat groups, A.J. Wood. A.J. is the founder of Media-Cats and will be introducing us to the latest version of Adobe InDesign. If you’re in the area, come on out to Nerdbooks in Richardson at 11am tomorrow (Sept 15th). See you there!

Hands-On Guide To Creating Flash AdvertisingWhile Amazon still has it marked as a pre-order, my book, Hands-On Guide To Creating Flash Advertising, has been published and I’ve got my first copy in hand. And while the title may make some people cringe at the thought of another annoying banner with lots of blinking fluorescent colors, the true purpose of the book is to teach its readers a better, more likable way to advertise online with Flash. And it’s not just about banner ads, it’s about microsites as well. With chapters covering everything from advertising examples to sample code to topics such as design and preparation for advertising with both banners and microsites, I hope you’ll enjoy reading the book just as much as I hope you’ll gain some bit of new knowledge from it.

Hands-On Guide To Creating Flash AdvertisingWith the publish date for the book only a month away (August 24), I went ahead and pushed the website live last night. Not all aspects of the site are fully functional at this time and that’s intentional. While I wanted visitors to be able to do a couple of things like read about the book (or the author), I’m holding off on some other features like downloads and questions/comments for individual chapters until the book is released. Anyway, check it out when you get a chance and feel free to order a copy if you like. ;)

Off to press with a new publication date!

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

Hands-On Guide To Creating Flash AdvertisingToday I received word that my book (Hands-On Guide To Creating Flash Advertising) is going to press a bit ahead of schedule and that the expected publication date is now August 24th. The book can be pre-ordered from several places online including Amazon and the Elsevier/Focal Press website. In addition, you can find a sample chapters section on the right side of the Elsevier/Focal Press website.

Touching base (a.k.a. “I’m still around”)

Friday, June 1st, 2007

Due to the fact that so many companies see the importance of having (and maintaining) an online presence, we’ve been very busy and busy is always good. One personal result of having plenty of work to do is that it’s been nearly a full month since I posted anything here. So I thought I’d take a quick break, grab a coke, and write something up real quick.

The biggest thing I’ve been doing at work is a new site for The PatrĂ³n Spirits Company. I’m not sure how much I can say about it, but if you like SimplyPerfect.com, which I posted about at the time it launched, you will like the new site as well. Obviously the two sites are different, but the clean and simple feel remains.

The biggest thing I’ve been doing outside of work is getting prepared for our new arrival who is expected to join us any day now and make our son a big brother. As you can imagine, I’ll be spending time with my family and probably won’t be posting much for a little bit after that day comes.

Finally, for those who may be wondering, the book is going great and is staying right on track to ship on time.

And now, back to work. Have a great day, week, and month (just incase it takes me a while to post again).

Preliminary website for my book

Hands-On Guide to Creating Flash AdvertisingI’ve launched a single page (for now) website for my book, “Hands-On Guide to Creating Flash Advertising“. While the book is not quite ready to pre-order, I’ve included a form on the site so those who may be interested can sign up for notification. Take a second to visit the site if you like and check back here for more updates.

Hands-On Guide to Creating Flash Advertising

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

It’s official… I’m currently in full swing writing my book! The book, titled “Hands-On Guide to Creating Flash Advertising”, is going to be a part of the Hands-On Guide series published by Focal Press and has a publication date set for October 2007. The thought behind the book is to help people understand the process of planning, designing, and building an online ad campaign and/or micro site for a client. It will cover topics like reaching your target audience with the correct media placements, building your ads or micro site, and tracking the performance of both. I’ll also be writing about different options for ads such as in-page, expandables, floating ads, and video units.

For those who are interested, I’ll be posting a link to pre-order as well as more information as I get the chance.
