			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img src="/wp-images/vizXLogo.jpg" alt="vizX Logo" class="alignleft"/>As I mentioned in my <a href="http://flash.fincanon.com/archives/141" target="_blank">previous post</a>, I&#8217;m working on catching up with some Flash/Flex related things now that my life is back to some kind of normal pattern. One of the items on my list was to update vizX (my <a href="http://labs.adobe.com/showcase/special/airderby/" target="_blank">Adobe AIR Developer Derby</a> entry back in September last year) and I can now scratch that off the list.</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re new to vizX, here&#8217;s my <a href="http://flash.fincanon.com/archives/124" target="_blank">original description</a>:<br />
vizX is a visual XML editor which displays nodes in a tree structure on the left while details of the selected node are displayed on the right. The details include the name and text value of the node, its attributes and the ability to add child nodes and new attributes.</p>
<p><strong>Thanks to everyone who has used (or plans on trying) vizX!</strong> After checking it out, I would love to hear your thoughts or any issues you ran into while using vizX.</p>
<p>And finally, here it is:<script type="text/javascript" src="/js/swfobject.js"></script></p>
<div id="foo_flashcontent">
Whoa. You need to install <a href="http://www.adobe.com/go/flashplayer">Adobe Flash Player</a>.
</div>
<p><script type="text/javascript">
var so = new SWFObject("/f/badge.swf", "badge", "217", "180", "6.0.65", "#FFFFFF");
so.addVariable( "appname", "vizX" );
so.addVariable( "appurl",   "http://flash.fincanon.com/dl/vizX.air" );
so.addVariable( "airversion", "1.1" );
so.addVariable( "buttoncolor", "989898" );
so.addVariable( "messagecolor", "000000" );
so.addVariable( "imageurl", "/wp-images/vizX_BadgeImg.jpg" );
so.write("foo_flashcontent");
</script></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Over the past several months, I&#8217;ve been very busy with everything from changing jobs at the end of last year to moving into a new house less than two weeks ago. Combine that with all of the time I love to spend with my wife and our two beautiful children and it seems as though I&#8217;ve fallen behind on nearly everything related to Flash and Flex in my life (except work of course). Well, now that I seem to be settled in to my job, we&#8217;re all moved in to the house (even though there are plenty of boxes left to unpack) and I think things are getting back to some kind of a &#8220;normal&#8221; pace, I have some catching up to do.</p>
<p>Outside of just getting back to posting here, I&#8217;ll be spending some time soon updating a few items. A few of those items include:</p>
<li><strike><a href="http://flash.fincanon.com/archives/124" target="_blank">vizX</a> - this was my (non-winning) entry for the <a href="http://labs.adobe.com/showcase/special/airderby/" target="_blank">Adobe AIR Developer Derby</a> and right now it is several versions behind the current version of AIR.</strike></li>
<li>The code for my book (<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0240809491?ie=UTF8&#038;tag=handonguidtoc-20&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;creativeASIN=0240809491" target="_blank">Hands-On Guide to Creating Flash Advertising</a>) - while right now it doesn&#8217;t look like I&#8217;ll be writing a new edition of the book itself, I do plan to update the classes to AS3 and make them available along with the AS2 versions on the book&#8217;s companion website.</li>
<li>Get back to blogging for the <a href="http://dfwaug.net/" target="_blank">Dallas-Fort Worth Adobe User Group</a></li>
<p>One other thing I&#8217;m going to try to start squeezing back in is <a href="http://lab.fincanon.com" target="_blank">my lab</a>. As you can see if you click on that link, I haven&#8217;t even touched anything there since January 19, 2007! Ironically that&#8217;s the day the lab got added to the MXNA. So I&#8217;ll be trying to do some experiments with both Flash and Flex when I get time but this will probably be the first thing to take the backseat if need be.</p>
<p>Anyway, I better get back to work (since I&#8217;m actually <em>at</em> work). Talk to you again soon&#8230;</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://www.unlocktheminesofmoria.com/" target="_blank"><img src="/wp-images/lotroMines.jpg" alt="Mines of Moria" class="alignleft"/></a>We&#8217;ve launched a <a href="http://www.unlocktheminesofmoria.com/" target="_blank">new site</a> today for volume II of the award winning MMORPG, <a href="http://www.lotro.com" target="_blank">The Lord of the Rings Online</a>. The new expansion, &#8220;Mines of Moria&#8221; was <a href="http://www.lotro.com/article/514" target="_blank">announced</a> by our friends at <a href="http://www.turbine.com/" target="_blank">Turbine, Inc.</a> and <a href="http://www.codemasters.com/" target="_blank">Codemasters Online</a> earlier this month and it &#8220;<em>will expand the online world of Middle-earth to let players explore the ancient underground cities of the dwarves, battle epic characters in the depths, face off with the Watcher, be a part of the fateful release of Durin&#8217;s Bane and more!</em>&#8221;</p>
<p>After registering on the site, users can play different mini-games which will launch individually over the next couple of months. The first of the games is live now and is called King Under The Mountain. The next two games are Swig &#038; Toss and Eleventy-Seven Morsels. In addition to playing the mini-games, you can also check out the leaderboards, let your friends know about the site and find plenty of information about both <a href="http://www.lotro.com" target="_blank">The Lord of the Rings Online</a> and obviously the Mines of Moria expansion. So when you get a chance, <a href="http://www.unlocktheminesofmoria.com/" target="_blank">go check it out</a>.</p>
<p>A couple of quick notes before I wrap up this post:<br />
First, I have to admit that I wasn&#8217;t really into MMORPGs before but after being a part of this project and learning about this particular game I think I&#8217;m going to start playing this one. Second, I&#8217;d like to say thanks, congrats and good job to everyone on the <a href="http://www.unlocktheminesofmoria.com/" target="_blank">Mines of Moria</a> team here: Paul Medcalf, Guy Stables, Chris (just &#8220;Chris&#8221;), Jason Moerbe, Jason Steen, Todd Cowden, and anyone else I may not have mentioned (sorry).</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://www.kewlbox.com/games/gameDetail.aspx?gameID=281" target="_blank"><img src="/wp-images/saw_puppet.jpg" class="alignleft" alt="SAW IV" /></a>So my first full project with <a href="http://www.blockdot.com" target="_blank">Blockdot</a> has launched and it&#8217;s a bit of a puzzle for the DVD release of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_IV" target="_blank">Saw IV</a>. My quick explanation of <a href="http://www.kewlbox.com/games/gameDetail.aspx?gameID=281" target="_blank">the game</a> is that you are using a video monitor to watch two people who are trapped in two different rooms. You have 6 items that you can use to free them either before time runs out or before they die from other (not-so-natural) causes. However, keep in mind that you have to use each item in the correct room AND in the correct order or you will surely be the cause of the prisoners&#8217; untimely demise.</p>
<p>So when you get a few minutes to &#8220;kill&#8221;, go check out <a href="http://www.kewlbox.com/games/gameDetail.aspx?gameID=281" target="_blank">Saw IV: Trapped</a> on our game portal, <a href="http://www.kewlbox.com" target="_blank">Kewlbox</a>.</p>
<p>By the way, here are the actual rules from <a href="http://www.kewlbox.com/games/gameDetail.aspx?gameID=281" target="_blank">the game</a>:</p>
<p>Time to stare death in the face with Trapped, a torture test as horrifying as anything you’ll see in the upcoming Saw IV DVD release.</p>
<p>•Begin play by checking out the blood-splattered video monitor.<br />
•Click the Room 1 button — a camera reveals a man trapped in a dank storage room.<br />
•Click the Room 2 button — a camera reveals another man trapped in a utility room.<br />
•Your goal: Try to free both men by selecting the correct objects for the correct room in the correct order. Make the proper move and Jigsaw will inform you that you’re on the right track to cracking this sadistic set-up…but choose the wrong step and the captives will be killed in unbearably painful ways.<br />
•Nervous? Get over it — and don’t waste time! If the game clock ticks down to zero before your work is done, no one will make it out alive.</p>
<p>Detective Hoffman’s Investigative Tip:<br />
Be sure to toggle between the two rooms and alternate the placement of objects.</p>

<ul>
<li>First off, I love games&#8230; this is awesome</li>
<li>I&#8217;ve been working on some pretty cool games and I&#8217;ll post about some of them individually as they launch (much like I did with sites I worked on while I was with Click Here).</li>
<li>The Flash team here is great and I have to admit that I&#8217;ve found myself humbled more than once by a few of the guys when it has come to coding.</li>
<li>The type of development and processes that I&#8217;ve been used to while working at an agency for the past 4 years is a slight bit different than it is here so I&#8217;ve actually felt a little bit of culture shock (but it&#8217;s been a good shock).</li>
<li>My title is &#8220;Game Developer&#8221;&#8230; this is awesome</li>
</ul>
<p>Ok, I&#8217;m going to get back to work now but I&#8217;ll post more another time. Keep an eye out for my posts about our games and in the meantime check out our game site: <a href="http://www.kewlbox.com" target="_blank">Kewlbox</a></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://www.smacktalkgenerator.com/" target="_blank"><img src="/wp-images/smacktalkHead.gif" alt="Talkin Smack" class="alignleft"/></a>The last Flex project I was working on before I left <a href="http://www.clickhere.com" target="_blank">Click Here</a> to join <a href="http://www.blockdot.com" target="_blank">Blockdot</a> was a site for <a href="http://www.gamestop.com" target="_blank">GameStop</a> known as the <a href="http://www.smacktalkgenerator.com/" target="_blank">Smack Talk Generator</a>. While the site was originally due to launch before my departure, there were unforeseen events that pushed that date out and I didn&#8217;t get to finish it up. Since that was the case, the project was handed over to a couple of my (now former) coworkers for completion and I was told that it launched yesterday.</p>
<p>Ok, so what exactly is this <a href="http://www.smacktalkgenerator.com/" target="_blank">Smack Talk Generator</a>? Well, the short version of it is this: Since gamers like to talk smack to each other, they can now do it via email (linking out of course) with voice and animation. To talk smack with someone, you simply drag words you want to use from an available &#8220;word bank&#8221; and drop them in the smack sentence area. Your chosen words can then be removed or rearranged as you see fit and then you can choose an animation to play along with your smack, preview it and then send it all out to your friends. That&#8217;s it in a nutshell.</p>
<p>So get over there to <a href="http://www.smacktalkgenerator.com/" target="_blank">check it out</a> and then come back here because I&#8217;d love to hear what you think.</p>
<p>One more thing for Chris, Scott and Charlie (and anyone else involved in the project): GREAT JOB GUYS!</p>
